My Goal as a Piano Instructor
Incorporate Music Theory and Technique: I aim to blend music theory and technical skills into exciting lessons that children look forward to.
Teach Music Reading & Understanding: Every student will learn to read music accurately and understand common musical terms.
Encourage Musical Exploration: I inspire students to explore their unique gifts for musical expression.
Instill a Love for Music: Lessons are taught with patience and understanding to foster a lifelong love for music.
Build Performance Confidence: I help students gain the confidence needed to perform for others.
Promote Quality Practice: Encouraging daily quality practice is key to success.
Provide Positive Reinforcement: Students receive positive feedback as they master new pieces.
Method of Instruction
Lessons are taught on a Yamaha Upright Piano using the Piano Adventures series. If a student has started with a different series of books, we can continue with those if preferred.
Through experience, I have found the Piano Adventures method particularly effective for children. The series includes lesson books, as well as optional books in Performance, Ear Training and Theory. These resources reinforce note-reading, ear training, and musical concepts through engaging exercises.
Students are encouraged to purchase the Piano Adventures lesson book and are recommended to also get the Theory and Performance workbooks for additional practice at home.
I supplement lessons with flashcards to improve note-reading and familiarize students with musical terms and symbols. Additionally, I ask students to select pieces of music they enjoy, whether classical, jazz, country, rock, or pop. Learning music they love can be deeply motivating and inspiring.
